Sanctified by a Kiss

Old Willie Shakespeare wrote, “A strawberry by any other name would taste sweeter covered in chocolate.” Willie knew love, writing things like this: “You have witchcraft in your lips” (Henry V). Well, we know food, and here’s what’s cooking at week’s end just for you: chicken carbonara and shrimp étoufée!

Come grab some Valentine’s Day goodies for your special ones. Nothing says, “Be my Valentine” like some chocolate covered strawberries or glazed raspberry scones! Hope to see you at the table!

Chicken carbonara. We have bow tie pasta swimming in a creamy white sauce with lots of fine friends — oven-roasted chicken breast, mushrooms, garden fresh veggies, and green onions. A. A. Milne wrote, “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” Old Pooh Bear loved him some honey, but when he and Piglet hungered for pasta (which they did regularly), chicken carbonara always fit the ticket. Of course, they followed the meal with honey.

Friday, February 12

Shrimptastic Friday: Shrimp étouffée. Shrimp lovingly cooked with tomatoes and other tasty veggies in a delicious sauce served over Louisiana rice will make you boogie up and down the street. Seventeenth century poet Robert Herrick waxed, “Give me a kiss, and to that kiss a score; then to that twenty, add a hundred more: a thousand to that hundred: so kiss on, to make that thousand up a million. Treble that million, and when that is done, let’s kiss afresh, as when we first begun.” Well, Robbie, okay. We say, substitute ‘shrimp’ for ‘kiss’ — and he just might be onto something savory and shrimptastic! “Give me a shrimp, and to that shrimp a score….”

Famous Quotes

Known for his pithy, short writings, Christian Nevell Bovee penned, “It is the passion that is in a kiss that gives to it its sweetness; it is the affection in a kiss that sanctifies it.” Rock on, brother. Sanctify someone with a kiss today.
