Hey friends, come join us at the table this week as we answer the age-old question of where babies come from! We’ve got a great week of specials from Mrs. Clélie’s kitchen. Here’s what’s cooking just for you: baked ziti pasta, salmon croquettes or crab cakes, and shrimp tacos.

Baked ziti with mini house—made meatballs, house salad, and bread. This is our version of a staple dish in southern Italy, a pasta al forno — pasta cooked in the oven. We use our fresh marinara, add some spicy house-made mini meatballs, spoon in some house-made béchamel for creaminess, and add some ziti pasta. Just the thing we’ll need after Thanksgiving! We couldn’t resist this little joke: “A man walks into the doctor’s office with a penne stuck in one of his ears, a spaghetti in the other ear, and a tortellini stuck in one nostril. He says, “Doc, this is terrible. What’s wrong with me?” The doctor says, “Well, first of all, you need to eat more sensibly.”

Salmon croquettes with house salad and bread ($13.50) or crab cakes with house salad and bread ($15.00). A luscious mix of lump crab meat, Stone House Eats bread crumbs, and seasonings covered with a delightful beurre blanc sauce and served with our own house bread. Maybe you remember this little story we told a long time ago: “Grandma, where do babies come from?” “What?” she asked completely surprised by her four year-old grandson. “Babies. How do we get babies?” “Well, honey bear, some folks buy them at K-Mart, others at Wal-mart. The really smart folks, though, have learned how to make them in the kitchen.” “How?” he asked. “Salmon croquettes have all the ingredients you need to make a baby.” “So, if I eat salmon croquettes, I’ll have a baby.” “No, honey bear, not exactly…you have to be a certain age…and the secret ingredients cannot be revealed until you get engaged to be married. But, yes, it’s salmon croquettes.” “Oh,” he said, stuffing a bite of cake into his mouth. Shhhh. Don’ tell anyone.

Barbecued shrimp tacos ($13.50). Take some of our barbecued shrimp, add them to a lightly fried corn tortilla with some jicama slaw and fresh salsas, and you’ve got a launching pad for the weekend. Jonathon Gold once remarked, “When it’s done properly, taco should be a verb.” Let’s taco this Thursday!
